AbstractThis project compares the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet
Union and World War II focusing on the eastern front between Germany and the Soviet Union. More specifically, it will demonstrate how the Soviet defeat at the Battle of Suomussalmi triggered a change throughout the Soviet Army’s battle tactics. They adopted the tactics used by the Finnish soldiers to defeat them in the Finnish countryside and used them to defeat the German Army in the Battle of Moscow. This was a major factor in the Soviet success during World War II which eventually resulted in an Ally victory. |
